The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a three-day forecast warning of widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country from Monday through Wednesday.
In the northern states, light morning rains are expected in parts of Adamawa and Taraba, followed by isolated thunderstorms in Kaduna, Gombe, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, and southern Borno later in the day. Similar patterns of cloudy skies with sunshine intervals and intermittent storms are forecast to continue into midweek.
Central states including the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Benue, and Kogi will also experience thunderstorms, with heavier rainfall predicted in the afternoons and evenings.
The southern region will face the heaviest impact, with thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rains in Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Imo, and Abia. NiMet also warned of possible flash floods in Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.
Residents have been urged to take precautions during the rains, avoid driving recklessly on wet roads, and disconnect electrical appliances during storms. Farmers were advised not to apply fertilizers or pesticides just before rainfall to prevent nutrient loss. Airline operators are also encouraged to obtain updated weather reports for flight planning.
NiMet stressed the importance of staying informed through its regular updates, especially in flood-prone areas.
