Police charges, prosecutes driver for dangerous driving causing accident in Brusubi

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has charged and prosecuted driver for dangerous driving causing accident in Brusubi in the West Coast Region.

“Brusubi Police, on Saturday, 16th August 2025, at about 15:00hrs, received a report of a vehicle drifting dangerously in the neighborhood. The said vehicle, BJL 6603 W, knocked down a NAWEC electrical pole and was later abandoned at the scene,” the police said in a statement.

It added: “Police visited the scene and secured the vehicle for examination. Witness statements were obtained, and a case file was opened.

Later that day, the driver was identified as Amadou Bah, 17 years old, of Wullinkama. He was arrested, charged, and detained.”

“On 16th August 2025, the accused was charged with dangerous driving, contrary to Section 49(1) of the Motor Traffic Act and unlicensed driving, contrary to Section 36 of the Motor Traffic Act.”

The police said the case was arraigned before Magistrate K. Baldeh of the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court, adding the accused pleaded not guilty to count one but pleaded guilty to count two.

“He was fined D1,000 and sentenced to a mandatory four-month jail term,” it said.

“The case has been adjourned to 25th August 2025 for continuation of proceedings on count one. Police remain committed to stopping drifting and reckless driving on all public roads.”
