Nigeria: Facebook user arraigned for alleged fake news, defamation

A 37-year-old woman, Akanji Kofoworola, has been arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly publishing fake news and defamatory content about Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin on Facebook. Kofoworola pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, publishing fake news, and defamation.

The prosecutor alleged that Kiganjani, and other bloggers at large committed the offenses in Lagos between 2025 and the present.

The court granted Kofoworola bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the trial to August 21, 2025.
