The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State attributed the tragic death of four individuals in a road accident near the Idemili River by the Second Niger Bridge to uncontrolled speeding. The incident, which occurred late on a Wednesday evening, involved a 40-foot container truck, a shuttle bus, and several tricycles.

Reports from eyewitnesses indicated that the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle while descending a hill due to brake failure. In the struggle to steer the truck, it collided with other vehicles and even pedestrians, resulting in multiple fatalities. The heart-wrenching scene was captured on social media, showing the trapped victims and the extensive damage caused by the collision.

The spokesperson for the Anambra State FRSC, Margaret Onabe, emphasized the importance of avoiding excessive speeding and other risky behaviors on the road to prevent such tragic incidents. She confirmed that four individuals lost their lives in the crash, while two others sustained injuries of varying severity.

According to Onabe, the accident involved a trailer with an unsecured container colliding with six other vehicles, including a bus and four tricycles parked along the roadside. The cause of the accident was identified as excessive speed and the subsequent loss of control by the truck driver.

Responding swiftly to the incident, FRSC officials arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and facilitate the flow of traffic. Those injured in the accident were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

The Sector Commander urged all road users to adhere to traffic regulations diligently to avoid accidents and ensure their safety during travels. The FRSC is currently conducting an investigation into the crash to gather more details and identify potential preventive measures for future road safety.

In a bid to raise awareness and promote safe driving practices, it is imperative for drivers and pedestrians alike to prioritize road safety at all times. By exercising caution, obeying traffic rules, and avoiding reckless behaviors like speeding, we can work together to reduce the incidence of road accidents and save lives. Let us all commit to being responsible road users and fostering a culture of safety on our highways.
