US President Donald Trump has appointed conservative commentator Dan Bongino as the new deputy director of the FBI. Bongino, a former NYPD and Secret Service agent, will serve under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel
Bongino, 50, has a strong background in law enforcement, having worked as part of the protection detail for two presidents, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. He’s also a popular podcast host, with his show, “The Dan Bongino Show,” gaining massive attention on social media platforms
Trump praised Bongino’s appointment, saying he’s “a man of incredible love and passion for our Country” and will do an “incredible job” at the FBI. Bongino has expressed his gratitude, thanking Trump, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel for the opportunity.
Bongino’s new role has sparked interest, given his conservative views and combative persona. He’s known for firing back at Trump’s detractors on social media and has a long-running spat with horror author Stephen King.
The appointment comes after Kash Patel’s narrow confirmation by the Senate as FBI director. Patel has promised to “rebuild” the bureau, despite concerns from Democrats that he may seek retribution against Trump’s enemies.
