Police arrests suspected livestock thief

The Anti-Crime Unit under The Gambia Police Force on Friday February 14, 2025 arrested a suspected livestock thief.

“The Anti- Crime Unit while conducting a visibility patrol and show of force on February 14, 2025, arrested a suspect for the alleged theft of livestock in Lamin CDC,” the police said in a statement.

It added: “The patrol team, led by DSP Corr, apprehended 21-year-old Yaya Badjie, a resident of Wellingara, in possession of two goats, a sheep, a black speaker, and a vehicle tyre.”

“His accomplice, Babucarr Ndure, who was driving a Benz C-Class (WCR 1495C), fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle,” it added.

The statement further said that insurance documents bearing the names Babucarr Ndure and Alieu Ceesay were recovered from the car.

“Two officers have been assigned to secure the abandoned vehicle, while Yaya Badjie will be processed, and the case referred to CID for further investigation,” it also said.

Meanwhile, the police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

“Community collaboration is crucial in tackling crime, and individuals with information on the whereabouts of the escaped suspect or any related criminal activities are encouraged to report to the nearest police station,” concluded the statement.
