Presidential advisors defend Barrow’s third term bid

Special advisors of President Adama Barrow, Saihou Mballow and Momodou Sabally have both defended the president’s decision to seek a third term in office ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

It could be recalled that during the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) congress in Lower River Region (LRR) the party named President Barrow its candidate for the upcoming 2026 presidential election.

The announcement was further enhanced in a recent State of Affairs TV show at QTV, where President Barrow emphasized his willingness to contest in the next presidential election.

This has been condemned by political activists and concern Gambians citing that the President should uphold the ECOWAS two-term policy as well as demonstrate morality.

 However, speaking to Kerr Fatou online TV Mr. Mballow said: The move is driven by public demand and his administration’s developmental achievements.”

Mballow further emphasized that President Barrow’s candidacy aligns with constitutional provisions and the expressed will of the Gambian people.

On the other hand, renown politician cum special presidential advisor Momodou Sabally posted on his Facebook page that President Barrow has the constitutional mandate to run for third term.

In a subsequent post, he said he is much concerned with fourth term as the third term bid has already been decided.

He described President Barrow as the most peaceful president, while his government as democratic, transparency and accountable.
