8 suspects arrested over drugs, hunting guns

Officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) recently arrested eight suspects of drugs and hunting Gus in Nyangbolong village in the Foni Bintang District, West Coast Region.

“Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) with back up support from the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) of The Gambia Police Force (GPF) conducted a pre-dawn operation targeting cannabis cultivators and dealers in Nyangbolong Village in Foni Bintang District, West Coast Region. The operation led to the arrest of eight adult male Gambian nationals and the seizure of over two hundred (200) bundles of suspected cannabis sativa, thirteen (13) twenty liters gallons filled with cannabis seeds reserved for cannabis cultivation and three (3) unlicensed hunting rifles,” the agency said in a statement.
“35 years old Abdoulie Sonko was arrested with thirteen (13) bags containing 165 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa and eleven (11) gallons of suspected cannabis seeds. Equally, officers seized two (2) unlicensed hunting guns at his property.”
“39 years old Edrisa Sonko was clutched with nine (9) bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in a blue plastic container.”
“26 years old Alagie Jammeh and 35 years old Modou Sanyang were each arrested with three (3) bundles of suspected cannabis sativa respectively.”
“40 years old Desere Sanyang and Duwa Badjie were taken into custody for joint possession of eight (8) bags containing suspected cannabis sativa. Equally, Desere Sanyang was found wanting for the possession of an unlicensed hunting gun,” it said.
“49 years old Yusupha Sonko was arrested for possession of one (1) bundle, one (1) parcel and so quantities of suspected cannabis sativa.”
50 years old Nfally Nyassi arrested for the possession of one (1) parcel and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa, it added.
“Operatives also seized one (1) bag containing nine (9) bundles of suspected cannabis sativa and two (2) twenty liters gallon containing cannabis seeds at a cashew farm in the village.”
Moving forward the statement indicated that three unlicensed hunting guns that were seized were handed over to GPFβs Sibanor Station for further investigations and necessary actions.
“Management of the Agency wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the police particularly the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Assistant Inspector of Police (AIG) in charge of police operations and the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) Command for their continued support during critical operations of this nature and whenever the need arises for back up support from them. The continued collaboration and partnership between security services of this country clearly indicate our determination and commitment to work together for public safety, peace and stability of this beloved nation of ours,” it concluded.
