Nigeria: Diddy’s head injury linked to alleged prison fight
By Zuleihat Owuiye, Nigeria
American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has reportedly suffered a head injury following an alleged fight with Jamaican drug lord Christopher “Dudus” Coke while serving his prison sentence in New Jersey.
According to reports, the 56-year-old music mogul was taken from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix to a hospital on Saturday morning after sustaining the injury behind bars.
Sources cited by TMZ claimed that the incident involved Coke, who was reportedly angered by allegations that Diddy had been enjoying special privileges inside the prison.
Coke, a former leader of Jamaica’s notorious Shower Posse gang, was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2012 after pleading guilty to drug and firearms trafficking charges in the United States.
However, the circumstances surrounding Diddy’s reported injury remain unclear, and the alleged altercation has not been independently confirmed.
Diddy’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, told the Daily Mail that the information could not be independently verified.
The reported confrontation comes amid growing scrutiny over claims that Diddy has been receiving preferential treatment at FCI Fort Dix.
An NBC News report recently alleged that the rapper had access to privileges beyond what is normally available to inmates, including assistance from fellow prisoners with cooking, cleaning and other personal needs.
The report also included allegations that he had access to a mobile phone and a modified tablet. One inmate reportedly claimed that Diddy used the tablet to watch a documentary about him produced by his longtime rival, 50 Cent.
According to sources cited by TMZ, the reports allegedly triggered prison searches and the confiscation of phones belonging to Coke and other inmates.
The claims reportedly angered Coke, although no independent evidence has established that the alleged dispute led to a physical confrontation with Diddy.
The US Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on the rapper’s medical condition or living arrangements, citing privacy and security concerns involving incarcerated individuals.
Earlier reports from Page Six indicated that Diddy injured his head after striking the bunk above him at the prison.
Sources cited by TMZ also claimed that he was taken to hospital by ambulance before being returned to the facility. He was reportedly conscious and able to speak when he returned.
The different accounts have not been reconciled, and there has been no independent confirmation establishing exactly how the injury occurred.
Engelmayer previously said his team was working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that the rapper’s health remained its immediate concern.
Coke became a prominent figure in Jamaica through his leadership of the Shower Posse, a criminal organisation associated with drug trafficking and violence.
He was extradited to the United States following a major operation to capture him in 2010. The operation triggered violent clashes in Kingston, particularly in the Tivoli Gardens neighbourhood, where Coke wielded considerable influence.
More than 70 civilians were reportedly killed during the confrontation between Jamaican security forces and members of the gang, an episode widely known as the Tivoli Incursion.
Coke was subsequently convicted in the United States and received a 23-year prison sentence.
The reported injury comes as Diddy continues to face attention over his prison conditions and expected release date.
According to federal prison records cited by the Daily Mail, his release date has been moved from January 21, 2028, to March 2, 2028.
The adjustment followed reports that he had been returned to solitary confinement amid an investigation into allegations of special treatment and access to prohibited items.
People magazine also reported the change in his release date, while the Bureau of Prisons declined to explain the circumstances behind the adjustment.
Diddy was reportedly placed in solitary confinement in July following an earlier altercation with another inmate. It remains unclear whether the latest reported incident has any connection to his current confinement status.
Diddy is serving a prison sentence after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
The rapper has maintained his legal challenge to the conviction and is awaiting the outcome of his appeal.
His representatives have repeatedly questioned reports about his prison life, arguing that media coverage has placed excessive attention on unverified claims and routine details of his incarceration.
For now, the circumstances surrounding Diddy’s head injury and the alleged confrontation with Coke remain unconfirmed.
