Ghanaian actress and media personality Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku has fulfilled her long-held dream of becoming a lawyer after being called to the Ghana Bar on Friday, October 9, 2026.

She was among 1,568 newly qualified lawyers admitted to the Ghana Bar at a ceremony marking the completion of their legal training and the beginning of their professional careers.

Sharing a video of herself driving to the enrolment ceremony on Facebook, Naa Ashorkor expressed gratitude to God for helping her achieve the milestone.

“This is what the Lord has done. God bless you,” she wrote.

Her achievement marks the culmination of a journey that began in 2012, when she enrolled for a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of Ghana. She graduated in 2015 before continuing her legal education at the Ghana School of Law.

However, her journey was not without interruptions. Alongside her professional commitments in broadcasting and acting, she took a break from her legal ambitions to focus on motherhood and explore other interests.

In November 2024, she opened up about returning to law school after more than a decade away from the classroom.

In a Facebook post reflecting on her first day at the institution on November 6, 2024, she admitted that she was nervous about resuming her studies after such a long break.

“I’m anxious, very anxious, because, well, I started this journey 12 years ago in 2012. I took a long break to have children and pursue other interests, and now I’m back,” she wrote.

Despite her anxiety, the actress remained determined to complete the programme within two years. She promised to work hard, prepare thoroughly for her examinations and remain focused on achieving her goal.

At the time, she expressed hope that she would be called to the Bar in 2026, at the age of 38. Friday’s ceremony has now turned that ambition into reality.

Naa Ashorkor’s latest accomplishment adds another milestone to a career that spans acting, broadcasting, public relations and storytelling.

She obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2010 before earning her LLB from the University of Ghana in 2015.

She later strengthened her academic credentials with a master’s degree in Public Relations from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2021.

Her call to the Bar has attracted congratulatory messages from friends and colleagues, including George Quaye, chief executive officer of Image Bureau and a prominent figure in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

In an emotional Facebook tribute, Quaye celebrated her determination and reflected on watching her develop her career across different fields.

He noted that while the public had come to know her as an actress, broadcaster and storyteller, her latest achievement revealed another side of her ambition and perseverance.

“The world has known you as an actress, a broadcaster, a storyteller and a woman of immense talent. But today, I celebrate something even deeper. I celebrate the woman who dared to dream another dream, who held on to it for 14 years, and who refused to let the demands of an already beautiful and successful life make her abandon it,” he wrote.

Naa Ashorkor was one of three media practitioners called to the Ghana Bar at Friday’s ceremony. The others were Channel One TV and Citi FM journalist Umaru Sanda Amadu and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim.

Her achievement highlights the determination required to pursue a long-term ambition while balancing family responsibilities and an established career. After 14 years of holding on to her dream, the actress and media personality has officially added lawyer to her list of professional accomplishments.
