Nigeria: “Swear you’ll never cheat”: Nigerian woman in Canada sets faithfulness condition for husband’s visa sponsorship

A Nigerian woman living in Canada, Ezinne Nwanorue, has gone viral after revealing the condition she gave her husband before agreeing to sponsor his relocation: a public vow of faithfulness.

Ezinne, who describes herself as a prophetic intercessor, certified marriage counsellor, and mother of three, said the instruction came from God. She asked her husband, Franklin Nwanorue, to record a video declaring his commitment before she would proceed with his visa application.

“Before my husband can be given a visa to Canada, he must make a video confessing and post on Facebook and his WhatsApp status that if he comes to Canada and cheats on me, his wife, Ezinne Maryjane Nwanorue, he will die, in the name of Jesus,” she wrote.

She added that he must also promise “to remain faithful to me, his wife, and be a good husband to me, his wife, and be a good father to our children. This is the only way God can give him a visa to come to Canada, thus said the Lord.”

For Ezinne, the public declaration was not just about trust, but about accountability and spiritual covering for their marriage.

“As directed by God, and I want the best for you and my children, I want peace in your life, in my marriage. I confess, and I promise that if I ever come to Canada and cheat on you, let me die in Jesus Christ’s name,” he said.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices Ezinne had made living abroad for three years without him and the children.

“You have tried — three years without your children and me. I want the best for you and my children. I keep my promise to you, my love. I want you to be happy and will do anything to make you happy,” he said.

“Anything that hurts you in the past, forgive and move on. I will never divorce you. Nothing will make me leave you.”

“I am confessing that I will remain faithful sexually to my husband and that if I become unfaithful, let me die. I confess that I will continue to be a good wife to my husband and a good mother to our children,” she said.

Some users praised the couple for prioritizing commitment and transparency before a major life change like migration. Others questioned the need to make such a vow public and attach it to a visa process, calling it extreme.

A number of commenters also shared their own experiences with long-distance marriages, noting the strain separation can put on relationships.

The video has since been widely shared across Facebook, WhatsApp, and TikTok, with many debating where faith, marriage, and migration intersect.

For Ezinne and Franklin, however, the public vows appear to be their way of setting the tone for their next chapter together in Canada.
