The White House has expressed support for England to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the United States was knocked out of the tournament.

Andrew Giuliani, who serves as US President Donald Trump’s representative on World Cup matters, said England would be a deserving champion following the exit of the tournament’s co-hosts.

Speaking about England’s chances, Giuliani said that if the United States could not lift the trophy during its 250th anniversary celebrations, it would be a memorable story for England to end its long wait for World Cup glory on American soil.

He added that England has what it takes to go all the way, describing the Three Lions as one of the strongest teams still in the competition.

Giuliani also revealed that President Trump has been keeping an eye on England captain Harry Kane’s performances throughout the tournament. He described Kane as one of the key players capable of leading England to World Cup success.

He recalled previously playing golf with Trump and former England captain Wayne Rooney, noting that the US president has a genuine interest in football.

Kane also spoke about meeting Trump during a round of golf in Florida in late 2024, describing the experience as unforgettable. The England captain praised Trump’s golfing skills and joked that he hopes to be as good a golfer when he reaches the president’s age.

England are now just one win away from reaching the World Cup final as they continue their quest for a first title since 1966.

Their biggest challenge comes in the semi-finals, where Thomas Tuchel’s side will face defending champions Argentina. England secured their place in the last four with a 2-1 victory over Norway, while Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 to advance. The winner of the match will face either France or Spain in the final.
