The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant following Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s appointment as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Akpabio made the announcement during a plenary session on Tuesday, citing the need for a bye-election to fill the vacancy. He has directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the vacancy, requesting a bye-election within 30 days.

“The Senate President has declared the seat vacant, and we will be transmitting the resolution to INEC for urgent action,” Akpabio said. INEC is expected to conduct a bye-election to fill the seat in line with electoral laws.
