Nigeria: Easter bloodshed: A call for peace, unity in Nigeria

As Christians celebrate Easter, the joy is marred by the harsh reality of violence and bloodshed in Nigeria. The Palm Sunday attack in Jos, Plateau State, which left at least 28 people dead and many others injured, is a stark reminder of the country’s fragile security situation.

Easter symbolizes hope, love, and renewal, but in Nigeria, it has become a period of fear and anxiety. The attack is part of a larger pattern of violence perpetrated by jihadist groups, which has spread to other parts of the country. Successive governments have failed to address this issue, leading to a sense of impunity among attackers.

The message of Easter – to love, forgive, and renew – is crucial for Nigeria’s healing and stability. It calls for dialogue, collaboration, and respect across faiths and cultures. President Bola Tinubu has assured victims of the Jos attack that such incidents won’t recur, but more needs to be done to address the root causes of violence.

The government must take concrete steps to stop terrorism and create an atmosphere for reconciliation and peaceful coexistence. The international community is watching, and it’s time for Nigeria to take action.
