Nigeria: Mercy Johnson-Okojie appointed special adviser to Edo governor

Benin City, Feb 20, 2026 — Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of Nollywood actress and philanthropist Mercy Johnson‑Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government, on Thursday in Benin. Johnson‑Okojie, a celebrated figure in Nollywood with nearly two decades of experience and over 200 film credits, is expected to bring her public influence, communication skills, and grassroots reach to strengthen residents’ engagement with government policies and programmes.

Beyond her entertainment career, Johnson‑Okojie is widely respected for her humanitarian work through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women’s empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach. She has consistently used her platform to promote social responsibility, civic awareness, and community development.

In her new role, she will help bridge the gap between government and citizens, leveraging her reputation and advocacy experience to enhance public participation and awareness of state initiatives.
