The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, begins today, February 18, 2026. The Sultanate Council confirmed the sighting of the new moon, marking the start of Ramadan 1447AH.
In a statement, the Sultan urged Nigerians to seek divine intervention through prayers, especially in these times of hardship. Muslims across the country will observe the Ramadan fast, seeking spiritual growth and renewal.
Coincidentally, today also marks the beginning of the Lenten season for Christians, with Catholic faithful observing Ash Wednesday. It’s a day of reflection and spiritual rejuvenation for many Nigerians, regardless of faith.
May this period bring peace, hope, and blessings to all.
