Bandits have killed six people in Niger and Sokoto states, Nigeria. The attacks occurred in Damala village, Niger State, and Darusa, a border community in Sokoto State. In Damala, four residents were killed, and several shops were set ablaze. In Darusa, two Bureau de Change operators, Alhaji Ummaru Darusa and Muhammad Sani, were shot dead, and large sums of money were stolen.
The Nigerian Army has intensified clearance operations in Kwara and Niger states to combat banditry and kidnapping. Brigadier General Nicholas Rume assured residents of the army’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
The attacks are part of a growing trend of insecurity in Nigeria’s rural and border communities. The Lakurawa gunmen have been operating with little restraint in Gudu and Tangaza Local Government Areas, instilling fear and violence.
